Discover the BMW i8 pricing of the latest model for 2015
Although electric cars have been around for a while, in the recent years they’ve experienced a growth in popularity. People are more concerned than ever about the environment and finding new ways to power vehicles seems is slowly becoming an important issue. BMW was founded in 1916 and throughout the years it has produced a lot of fantastic cars. It managed to stay relevant over the year, which perhaps is the reason why it’s so successful today. The brand constantly pushes the boundaries, which most of the time pays off.
The BMW i8 is one of the brand’s latest vehicles. It’s also one of the most intriguing to ever be produced by the manufacturer. Why, you might ask? It’s due to the fact that it’s a plug-in hybrid sports car.
Having appeared at the 2009 International Motor Show in German as a turbodiesel concept car it wasn’t until 2013 that the vehicle first emerged in its current form. It was officially unveiled in 2013 at the International Motor Show in Germany, where it originally appeared in its concept form.
The production version of the i8 is rather aesthetically pleasing. It features butterfly doors and laser headlights, which makes it the first ever production vehicle to feature such lights. It’s rather refreshing to see a plug-in car that actually looks good. In the past, when electric cars weren’t as popular, the choices were limited and to be honest the majority of them looked rather uninteresting.
When it comes to power and performance, the car includes a 7.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Capable of reaching a top speed of 160 mph (250 km/h), the vehicle is rather powerful.
Now, the part we’ve all been waiting for, how much exactly does the i8 cost? In the UK, the vehicle is priced at £99,845 however it’s eligible for the £5,000 government Plug-in Car Grant.
Although it’s rather pricey, the BMW i8 is a great example of a plug-in hybrid done right.
