Design and technical details for BMW 550i Gran Turismo

BMW is world renowned for its luxury vehicles that are both elegant and powerful. Having been around for nearly 100 years, the brand has built a huge following with millions of enthusiasts eagerly awaiting to see what it produces next.

The 5 Series Gran Turismo first appeared as a concept in 2009. The vehicle was a unique combination of a sport sedan, an SUV and a Gran Turismo. It slightly resembled the 7 Series however, for the first time in the brand’s history, the 4-door BMW featured frameless doors.

In 2010, the production model went on sale and for the most part it remained true to the concept.

The xDrive Gran Turismo debuted the same year at Auto China Beijing.  Capable of reaching a top speed of 155 mph (249 km/h), the 550i is powered by a 4.4-litre biturbo V8 engine.

There’s no denying that the 550i Gran Turismo is a good vehicle. Perhaps it isn’t the most exciting or innovative BMW ever produced, however it does exactly what you’d expect from a vehicle of its type. It’s a fantastic example of BMW’s craftsmanship that will satisfy those willing to spend their hard-earned cash on it. In case you were wondering, the base model will set you back anywhere from $60,000 to $100,000.
