Design and technical details for BMW i3 2014
Ever since BMW was founded, nearly 100 years ago, it has produced vehicles that featured innovative design and fantastic performance. It has made a name for itself as a luxury brand and it still remains one of the most popular car manufacturers today.
Although in the past BMW mainly focused on luxury vehicles, in the recent years it has begun to experiment with a couple of different thing.
The BMW i3 is one of the brand’s latest vehicles and what makes it special is the fact that it’s an urban electric car.
Due to their recent rise in popularity, electric cars are currently growing in numbers. More manufacturers than ever are working on their own environmentally friendly, low emission electric cars, which is great news for the industry. It’s no surprise therefore, that BMW has decided to join in the fun and create its own electric car.
The i3 quickly became a favourite among electric car enthusiasts and is now one of the best-selling all-electric vehicles of all time.
Styling-wise, the vehicle is almost entirely made out of carbon fibre reinforced plastic, which makes it the first ever production vehicle to be so.
When it comes to charging, the i3 can go from 0 to 80% in around three hours, however due to the many different charging function this time can vary. The rapid charging option, for example, is specifically designed for DC charging stations and can decrease the charging time down to around 30 mins.
Although the i3 is a great vehicle, it’s slightly behind its rivals when it comes to safety. The vehicle only got 4 out of 5 stars from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP).
BMW is currently working on adding to the i3 range, with something scheduled for the model year 2017. Nothing has been revealed yet however with the way things are going for the i3, we can definitely expect something fantastic.
Overall, the BMW i3 is a great electric vehicle that proves the brand can think outside the box. Whether it’s a start of something new for the brand remains to be seen however we’re very excited to see the manufacturer producing something out of its comfort zone.
